"Pale" optic nerve in 2 y.o

by soudersfam, Jan 31, 2008 06:34PM
My two y.o daughter recently went to a pediatric opthamologist to have her eyes looked at for exotropia.  The doctor completley refracted her eyes and while she was looking in there she noticed that her optical nerve was "pale". She scheduled an MRI for her and of course we are worried. She never mentioned any type of atrophy though. My daughter is a very healthy 2 yo who has never had any meddical problems, besides her "wandering eye". Is there any chance, as her doctor said there might be a slight possibility, that she was jsut born with a "pale" optic nerve, or what are the chances that it is indeed something pressing in her optic nerve.
Just looking for a few other opinions.
Thanks,
a concerned mom

The cause could be either. Born with it or caused by a problem. No percentages or odds. Hope it turns out okay.

So it is "normal" in some people, with no affects later in life?

Also,
Could this be at all related to her exotropia? Would it be more likely that there is some sort of tumor if she also has the exotropia (in both eyes now).
