Pediatric Astigmatism

by leas1977, Feb 03, 2008 08:57PM
My daughter is four years old.  She recently had a vision test at her preschool that had some questionable results.  I was advised to take her to an opthamologist so I found a pediatric opthamologist in my area after doing some searching.  They tested her, dialated her eyes and then tested her again.  The results were that her vision was 20/40 in each eye and that she had an astigmatism in both eyes.  One eye was 95 axis and the other 100 axis.  They want her to wear glasses, mainly because of the astigmatism.  I actually have several questions....Does this sound like a reasonable diagnosis?  I have read online that 20/40 vision is normal for a 4 year old and that the 20/20 requirement is more for school-aged children.  Will she have to wear the glasses for all waking hours or just for certain activities (like school, reading, watching television)?  Is this astigmatism severe or minor?  Thank your for any information you can provide.
