Periorbital cellulitis

by kteen16, Nov 13, 2008 06:50PM
I woke up this morning, with my eyes(the eye lids) reaaaaaally swollen, and redness around the skin in my eyes.
So alerted I went to my doctor and he said I have Periorbital Cellulitis.
He put me on 250mg of Apo-Cefuroxime/Cefuroxime Axetil - 1 tablet twice daily.
Now of course me having anxiety I had to search it up, and it can turn into Cellulitis which is serious.
So it this medication going to cure it?
Cuz im scared of it affecting my brain.
Thanks.

I pick my ears alot, with Q-tips and bobby pins,
and my ear has been sore and the gland is swollen.
My doctor said that bacteria from my ear got into my eye.

Periorbital cellulitis is a condition where bacteria grow under the eyelid skin but stay in front of a structure which separates the front part of the eyelid from the eye socket. This dense membrane is called the septum and if the infection is in the front part, it is also called preseptal cellulitis. Oral antibiotics are successful in resolving 95% of these infections in healthy people.

If the infection spreads to become orbital cellulitis, the vision can decrease and it hurts to move the eye. This is a serious condition and usually requires hospitalization and IV antibiotics.

You should follow you doctor's directions and can usually expect some improvement in 2 to 3 days. If it does not improve by then or worsens at any time, you should call your doctor back for re-evaluation.

Sleep with your head somewhat elevated to avoid greater eyelid swelling in the AM and don't push on the swollen eyelid so it does not spread.

Thank you.
I was told to use a cold compress on the eye.
The swelling has gone down about 70%
Im so scared of it turning into Orbital Celluitis though.
What are the chances of that?
