Photoreceptors in the Eyes and Laser for Capsulotomy

by hsum4, Feb 04, 2009 09:38PM
Dear Doctors:

I have to have a capsulotomy and was wondering if this procedure will damage the Photoreceptors or rods and cones in my eye.  Does this bright light and heat damage this part of the eye?  I read in one of the databases at the library that this was possible in a laser procedure.

Thank you

No.  Obviously, it would not have been used to do millions of capsulotomies over many years.  There are many types of laser.

Thank you for your response.  I will feel more confident in going ahead with this procedure.
