Physiological diplopia?

Is it normal to see a double image of your own nose when using binocular vision trying to center on it or anyother object? What I see is an image of my nose on each side of my peripheral vision when using binocular vision. I discovered this when I was 6. Is it supposed to be suppressed by consciousness.  Is this normal?

It is normal to have the nose be in the peripheral part of your vision in each eye when you are gazing in almost any direction. It is not more suppressed than any other area in your peripheral vision. Remember that the peripheral vision is much worse than central vision....gives much less resolution so it is rather easy to ignore.

So when you say "each eye" you mean there should be two images of it being seen instead of one when using binocular vision?

Sure. That's what everybody sees. How could it be otherwise?

No, there's no sarcasm. Your right eye sees the right side of your nose, and your left eye sees the left side. There's no way they are going to resolve your nose into a single image. No MD needed to figure that out.
