Post retina detachment surgery small object disappear

i am about 5 weeks past surgery, I have oil inside. I have have
pretty sharp vision except for severe distortion in center of visual
field. small objects disappear when at center(should i call blind spot?) and vertical lines
converge there. i am interested in whether this may disappear over
time.
I notice after keeping the eye in the dark for a while and then
looking at a bright background, an "ink spot" pattern manifests at
center of vision field which i assume is associated with the
distortion. it goes away as the eye adjusts to light. Could this be
caused by vitreous remnant beneath the retina? If so, will it be
absorbed over time? My doctor detects no detachment and retina
appears healthy. Anybody with similar experience?

People that have had vitrectomies with oil and gas in the eye have been very generous in sharing their experiences. You can access these using the search feature and archives. A short answer is that both thing's you've noticed may go away after oil removed.

Thanks for quick reply, doctor.

The thing I worry about most is the blind spot in center. I never see anybody has it because of oil.
ppl say it for "macular degeneration", "macular hope", "optic nerve pale" .

I had retina detachment fix, membrane peel, laser and clean scar tissue from 3 surgeries in past 2 month. I am losing my hope:(

they are so scary, because looks like its so hard to recover.

It is a big operation, with a long recovery and incomplete recovery is the rule rather than the exception. The sole thing that makes it worthwhile is that before this type of surgery was developed (first by Dr. Robert Mauchemer at Bascome Palmer in Miami) these eyes all went blind.
