Post vitrectomy cataract surgery

Post vitrectomy cataract surgery

I had a vitrectomy 6/16/09, which resulted in a small cataract growing rapidly.  On December 15, I had the cataract removed, both surgeries performed on the right eye.  At the day-after appointment, my vision was amazing.  I had a Toric near-vision lens implanted due to my astigmatism, and both my surgeon and I were very happy, as it seemed that my progressives could actually be clear in the lower third.  However, that vision only lasted about 4 days.  Needless to say this was devastating.  At the one week post-op appointment, my cataract surgeon called my retinal surgeon thinking that perhaps there was some swelling to the retina that he could not discern.  But there wasn't, and basically, between the two doctors, they can give me no reason for what has happened to my vision.  I have been diligent with my drops and am down to Pred Forte and Xibron 2x daily.  I saw the retinal surgeon last week and he says it's continuing to improve though taking longer than he'd hoped.  There has been distortion in my vision since the vitrectomy in the shape of the letter C, though it has lessened, it's still there right in my central vision.  He said that if the cataract surgeon can't correct my vision with a prescription change, he'll give me an eye injection, which sounds horrifying.   At this point, I don't know what to think, having had two eye surgeries in six months with the result being worse vision than when I started.  By the way, both these surgeons are rated tops in their respective field.  Sorry this is so long.  Thank you for any help you can give.  1/18/10  Kat1945

What was the vitrectomy for?

Distortion implies a problem with the macula.
