Posterior Vitreous Detachment (PVD)

Posterior Vitreous Detachment (PVD)

Hello,

I am 31 years old. 20 years ago, I was diagnosed with keratoconus in both eyes. Lost my left eye because of infection which I got  after corneal transplant stitches removal. Now after 20 years, keratocmus is in its advanced stage.

About 3 years ago, when I wake up, I saw so many floaters and flashes in my right eye. One black spot in the mid of my vision. Doctor told me floaters and flashes are because of  Posterior Vitreous Detachment (PVD). And the spot is because of bleeding in the eye and a small drop  is on my retina which will fade out in a month. So black spot (blood), fades out in a month. Now its been 3 years and the vitreous has not separated completely from retina.

I have some few questions in my mind, please answer these.

1. How much time does the vitreous  takes to separate completely from retina.1 year, 2 year ?? I mean how long does this process of vitreous detachment last?
2. Doctor advised me not to lift weight. Because it will create pressure on my eye. Then the vitreous will be pulling very hard from retina which can cause retinal detachment. Is it true?? Suppose I lift a monitor and the sudden jerk of pulling monitor can cause any type of hard pulling of vitreous from retina which can cause retinal detachment.
3. doctor advised me not to push very hard during intercourse. Is he right?
4. after the competition of vitreous detachment what will be the next? Will it be the permanent vision loss.

Your kind reply awaited.

Thanks and regards
Khuram

1. The vitreous usually remains attached around the anterior retina (vitreous base) the rest usually separates in 6-8 weeks.
2. You ophthalmologist should know since he/she has looked in your eyes.
3. see #2
4. PVD does not cause visual loss in and of itself.
5. Yes you could get RD but its unlikely given the time interval.
6. That is uaually vitreous floaters
7. I can't tell, ask your Eye MDs.
