Prism in eye glasses

Prism in eye glasses

About two months ago I got my prescription in my glasses changed and it took me a good month to get use to it. I have thick lenses due to my prescription but are made as thin as possible. I have had corneal transplant in both eyes over 15 years ago cause my corneas were going into a cone shape and distorting my vision.

Anyways I still felt like I couldn't see well after the new prescription, yes got use to it but had trouble seeing still and squint some and eyes strain. So I have had my eyes retested and the prescription was different a lot but when she showed me I couldn't tell really and then she tried something else and I claimed to being seeing double. So now she has prescribed prism in my glasses. I am confused because when I am in ever day life I don't see double and this is what my optomitrist said would clear the double vision. I explained to her only in the test i was seeing double but she still prescribed it. She didn't know what else to do because I was having trouble telling what was the best as far as clarity in the eye testing. I have a lot of Astigmatisim.

Anyways anyone have prism in their glasses what is it like and will it make me wonky, make my eyes worse if I didn't really need it. What do they look like cause i was told my lenses will be thicker even with the thinist hey will make them. The change in the prescription plus the prism I fear and going to make me misrable and I am stresses about it. Any info and help is appreciated from those that have them and any professionals, thank for your time

Astigmatism can cause "double" vision.  However, it would be in one eye.  Prisms are used when the eyes are not aligned (crossed).  A persons sees double when using both eyes together.  The double vision is not present when only using one eye (cover one eye).

You mentioned that you had corneal transplants and a lot of astigmatism.  You should consider gas perm contact lenses, LASIK or PRK.

Hello,

Thank you for your response and the information you provided me.  I am still waiting on my new glasses but still fear that something was wrong in the testing cause I still don't feel in every day life I am seeing double. I am now wondering if perhaps I was causing the double vision when I was having the test because if I stare at small print and don't blink then I do see double, may be I did this in the test and i have never had double in any test before. Oh well I will try the glasses when they come in and see what happens.

What are gas perm contact lenses never heard of them or been given them as an option. Also about 5 years ago I was told lasik was not an option for me my a eye specialist I saw, well what he said is I had a 10% chance of it working. When you have had corneal transplants like i have you don't want to fool around with your eyes with only that % chance. What is PRK?

I hope you can answer my questions above  and thanks again for your time.
