Protein Bumps??

My eyes are ok for the first 15 minute when I put my contacts in, but after that, my eye start to dry up, which then my contacts start being pulled up by my eye lids.  It starts to get REALLY irratating, even when I re-wet my eyes.  Then my eye lids get swolen and have almost a bruising feeling.  Finally I just take out my contacts, and that's when the pain hurts the worst!  My eye stings, and I feel I can't even open it.  I have a history of Protein Bumps under my eye lids, but we just lost our eye coverage insurance wise.  It's very dry here in CO, which doesn't help either.  So is there some I can try to get OTC?  I don't have glasses to wear either, so I just use the Acuvue Oasys contacts.
