Pterygium ~ Should there be PAIN associated??

I was told several months ago that I have a pterygium in my left eye.  After a couple of weeks, the redness and irritation were no longer noticeable.
Two days ago redness began in the same eye and the pterygium seems larger and more noticeable this time ... It definitely feels like there's something in my eye :-)
What I am experiencing this time that I DON'T think was there last time is pain!  It sort of feels like a bad bruise-type pain in my eye and if I try to focus on something or turn my eyes too much, the pain is even more noticeable!
Is that common/uncommon or unheard of with pterygia??
Thanks for this forum!!

Pteryia usually do not cause any symptoms; however, they can become inflammed and cause irritation.  They also can grow over the cornea and either block the vision or induce astigmatism.  It would be unusual for a pterygium to grow so much in 2 weeks.  However, it may be irritated again.  You should have this examined by your ophthalmologist.
