Pupil Dialated after Retina Surgery

Pupil Dialated after Retina Surgery

Hello.  On 9/20, I had surgery to correct a detached retina that was caused by an trauma injury to my left eye.  The surgeon used a scleral buckle and a gas bubble.  He described it as a "long-lasting" gas bubble.  In my follow-up appointments the doctor is saying all is looking well.  I just have a couple concerns right now.
There is a dark line in my field of vision in that eye.  I am under the understanding that that is the edge of the gas bubble.  It is gradually settling downward.  Above the line, I can see a little better, but it still quite blurry.  I can see some shapes of objects, etc..  Is what is above the line, the vision i am going to recover in that eye, or close to it?
Another question..  My pupil has been diallated since the surgery as far as I can recall.  I assumed it was from all the drops I was taking, but now I am only taking prednisolone drops for about two weeks.  Would that cause the pupil to be diallated?  Is the diallated pupil something I should worry about.  I will check with my doctor when I go back, but its not for a couple more weeks.
Thanks for your help!  The forum is informative.

Your surgeon may have had you on atropine to dilate your pupil. That can take up to two weeks to wear off. In a very few cases a scleral buckle can leave a pupil partially or completely dilated.

As for your vision, the recovery after retinal detachment is slow indeed. It makes a huge difference whether your macula was off (bad) or still on (good). It may be as long as 6-12 months to know about the vision. A couple of more weeks on the pupil.

Good luck. Take care of your other eye, its your most important eye and will be at risk for RD there also.

Yes, he did have me on atropine.  I will just need to be patient with the pupil and the healing.  It has only been a little over a month since the surgery, but it seems like a year.
I will definitly be more careful in the future and take care of the eye.

Thank you!

I had a retinal buckle and a bubble put in place on 9/10.  I just had my 7 week follow up and was cleared to return to normal activity - including wearing my contact lenses. ( I was refitted and luckily my prescription remained the same because I had no scarring.)  Anyway - my bubble is still visible.
It is beginning to break up which looks like little bubbles attached to the big one.  It affects my vision less every day.  My DR said it should be gone in the next week or so and that the only limitation I have is I can not fly until it dissipates.  My pupil is still dilated and my DR contributed that to the bubble.  It is however reactive to light change.

Best of luck to you.  Things do improve quickly.  I noticed substantial improvement between week 5-6 of recovery.
