Pupil Size vs IOL type

Pupil Size vs IOL type

My doctor recommends Cyrstalens50 or Restor-IQ, but checking my pupil size last night showed 6mm, possibly even 7mm.  Is this too big?
What would be a reasonably standard way for a layman to measure pupil size and is there a difference in maximum limitation for different lenses?  (mono vs multi vs, presby)

Thank you so much in advance!

There's is no way for you to accurately measure pupil size.  This is done with a pupillometer or by using certain corneal topographers like the Zeiss Atlat or anterior segment analyzers like a pentacam or orbscan.  It might be in your best interest to stay clear of the restor due to the risk of halos and glare and waxy vision (read posts on this site by using search feature.)  The crystalens models do not have any hard and fast rules about pupil size and since the lens typically sits back very far in the bag, the effective position causes less problems than you might think with the smaller optic.  In the end, if the pupils are very large like 8 mm in dim light, I personally would probably stay clear of even a crystalens but then again, I'm a little cautious.

When my eye was dilated, my iris shrunk way back... and the pupil appeared quite large.  It doesn't get to that size in a dark room, but it's hard to tell because I can't see it without at least a little bit of lighting.  One experiment that I did was to take a ruler and camera, then flash photograph my eye/ruler combo after sitting in the dark for a minute.  The massive red-eye... or should I say white-eye(!) is pretty easy to measure.

Is the pupil size "officially" measured with the eye chemically dilated?  Does the eye dilate to those levels during nightime driving or say long walks in the mountains at night?  Thanks so much to all our forum doctors!!
