Puzzling eye condition with no answers

Please bear with me while I give some history of whats goin gon with my eye. In late 2006 I went to my eye doc for what she diagnosed as a eye inflammation. I was prescribed drops which apparently worked. Then around April/May 07 I started seeing a haziness aroudn the outer edge of my left eye. Went back and doc said that there seemed to be some pressure in eye and with the report of the haziness/vision disturbance she sent me to their galucoma specialist. Went to hime and had several tests done. My pressure wasnt so high but he said that I had:
one optic nerve smaller than the other one which could just be the way mine is
dry eyes and a mucus film  in the eye (my major complaint now)
I was suspect for glaucoma but did not have it now and did not need treatment for it at this time
My visual field test came back ok which was amazing.
He gave me Optiva and said com eback in 6 months
Not happy with that diagnosis sinc eit continued I went to another doc. HE did not see the mucis film but said they were dry and most likely due to allergies, which I do have. He gave me elestat and repeated most the of the tests , not the visual field which will be repeated soon. Elestat did nothing and went back to him. He gave me Allrex? Again did nothing. I do not have the hazy gray shadow anymore but th eye seems gooey, leaky, it gets worse as the day goes by, it looks like I am looking through a tear, distorted you know. SOrry that is the only way I can describe it. It feels like there is something in my eye or on the inside of my eyelid. Also, and bear with me, sometimes it feels like my eyeball is filled with fluid and it is sloshing around inside. I then wen tto my regular doc( she was out on leave an saw a new lady doc). She barely looked in my eyes but said she saw nothing! Just pat me on the head and send me home why dont ya. She prescribed my favorite allergy meds(allerX) and I am still where I am . No relief. Can anyone help?

If your vision is 20/20 that is always a good sign.  So the first priority here is to make sure you don't have a serious eye conditions.  It sounds like you have seen at least 3 ophthalmologists and no diseased found - so that is a good start.  On the other side, however, you continue to have eyes with mucus, full of fluid, sloshing around, and some fluctuating, distortion in vision.  Well, you obviously have some type of problem and have not found a good answer as to how to make it better.  There are several possibilites here and it's not worth going into them because I really have no real information about your eyes other than your somewhat vague symptoms.  SO -

Make a careful list of your symptoms, what makes them better, what makes them worse, when it happens, when it doesn't, what your medications are, which drops helped, which ones didn't help.  Get a copy of your records and see a new ophthalmologist for a fresh look at things.  Otherwise stick with your favorite ophthalmologist and get rechecked there.  Sometimes it takes trial and error to get the answers for some situations.  Good Luck.

The second optthalmologist said that he didnt beleive it was vision threatening. Fine so what is it?  I feel like a dope for considering going to yet another eye specialist. I guess that that is really what I need to do. Thank you.
Kathy

PS I dont have 20/20. I have been nearsighted for years and it is looking like I may need some progressive lenses soon. Oh also I have been having a harder time seeing in dim light.

Just as a tip to cure your dry eyes, every night when you are taking a shower, take a rag and place it under warm to slightly hot water. Let it soak and place that rag on your eyes (closed of course) and let it sit on them for 2 minutes. Make sure that the rag touches the eyelids. When you open your eyes it'll be real blurry for like 30 seconds, but dont worry about that because its the oils in your eyelids draining. The next day your eyes wont bug you, or at least not as much =)
