RD surgery is hard on the eye muscles

Dr hagan:
You mentioned that the eye muscle is 'slung' .... in the RD surgery. This seems horrible to me. I don't understand. My surgeon told me that a band is used to encircle 360 the eye ball. He told me there should be not effect to the  eye muscle. Did I get a wrong a message from him.

Dr Oyakawa:
As I know that you also had the RD surgery before, can you tell me how much impact to the eye muscle from the surgery from your experience

My surgeon told me that I can do any activities except boxing. What I found is that whenever I found the eye muscle pain whenever I throw a base ball, hit a badminton or a golf swing. Now I found the eye muscle pain whenever focus on an object I think due to convergence of the eyes The situation doesn't get better and it seems getting worse. The surgeon think that this is just pyschological and I should maintain myself psychologic healthy. I talked to some other eye doctors. All they said the answer surgeon should be the most accurate

I am really scared if I continue my 'normal' activities, this will make the eye muscle even worse. I tried to find a second opinion from another specialist but I may need to wait for another 2 to 3 months.

These activities involve stereo vision (depth perception).  Convergence is for near activities.  You problem is probably due to a difference in refraction in yours eyes after the scleral buckle.  See if a contact lens helps if the refraction in the two eyes is more than two diopters different.

Dr Oyakawa:
The difference of my eyes is 2.25 diopters. As I mentioned, there is also quite a difference in vision 20/15 Vs 20/40.

Like today, I have have strain feeling in both eyes. My other problem is dry eye and I tried contact lens but I cannot wear more than a few hours a day and I give up.

Can you explain to me why the activities of depth perception cause eye strain or even fatigue ? Does the strain feeling comes from extraocular eye muscle. I heard that there are some lens with prism power. Do you think this will help ?

More important : I feel eye strained (like driving, watch TV, reading or sometimes have a walk and looking at distant object). If I still keep on doing it everyday for another month or 2, will it cause long term damage to the eye.
