ROSECEA AND DRY EYE

by frwbeach, Dec 12, 2007 12:39PM
Quick question. I have severe dry eye and Occular Rosecea .    I recently found out that my sister has been treated for Rosecea also ( her PCP )  She went to eye doc for dry eye and they put in plugs
and  she said they kept her eyes wet but didnt help the burning / made vision look like she was swimming ,  and they eventually fell out ( 6 months )  and were not replaced.

Is Rosecea related to dry eye and does it effect the success of the plugs???
Unlike my sister I have had several operations ( buckle--Vitrectomy--cataracts ) that my doc says
probibly effected the tear glands production and elevated my dry eye from moderate to severe.
Restasis did nothing . I am going to opt for the plugs--whats the odds of them working?????

I buy eye drops by the box and worse case it will save me on eye drops if I can prolong the time between drops.

I would first suggest a trial of oral Doxycycline and hot compresses of your eyelids. This often works wonders in this situation.   -RSR MD
