Radiotherapy for retinoblastoma

Radiotherapy for retinoblastoma

: : A five-yr old child was treated by radiotherapy for unilateral
: : retinoblastoma, then ultimately by enucleation. The other eye
: : now has a cataract, secondary to radiation. My question is--if
: : the radiotherapy was properly done, either EBRT or brachytherapy,
: : should the untreated eye have been affected at all?

I would advise you to speak to the ophthalmologist or the radiation therapist.  To me, it would be inappropriate for you to discuss this with the family if you do not have all the facts.  Good luck.
Sincerely,
HFHS M.D.-JL
