Rapid Eyesight Deterioration

My friend's eyes have been deteriorating rapidly for the past 5 years, and the doctor's told him we would be blind by 21. He is now 23 and he can still can, but his eyes are still getting worse and worse. His left eye is blurry even with contacts now, but his right eye is fine, with contacts. They told him laser surgery would not fix his eyes. Does this sound like a condition that can be fixed? I don't even know what condition he is suffering from or how it can be fixed. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

That is way too vague to offer you any useful information. My suggestion would be to get a second opinion at a university medical center department of ophthalmology.
