I met with an opthamologist yesterday concerning extensive floaters in both eyes.  They are very bothersome.  Previously, I had several -- approximately two months ago they proliferated -- I have approximately two dozen (all shapes, sizes etc.). The specialist inform me that surgery can correct the problem but that many people that have the viterous (sp) gel removed develop cataracts.
I am 48 and obviously concerned by that potential outcome.  Any advice?

Thanks for your comments about the floaters.  However another question if I could.  I had valve replacement surgery 9 years ago to address a congenital defect of the aortic valve.  I take a rather high dosage of coumadin (7.5 mgs per day).  Since the surgery, I have noticed at least several times a day small but bright points of light that traverse the field of vision.  In addition, I have ocular migraines at least two or three a month lasting approximately 5 to 30 minutes with no subsequent headache accompanying the event).  My cardiologist, opthamologist speculate that the bright points of light could be small emboli thrown off from the valve but are unsure about the ocular migraines.  Based on your knowledge, is there any association between the floaters, bright spots, and migraines?  Should I be worried?  My opthamologist has told me that besides the floaters, the eyes appears fine (I have 20/15 vision in one eye and 20/20 in the other.
