I have "lazy eye" and I'm very intrested in having surgery to straightens my eyes.  This would be for cosmetic reasons only, I was told I'm too old (18) to retain any binocular vision.  I'm mainly wondering if this surgery is at all risky, or whether it would be covered by insuranc, etc.

the surgery is called strabismus surgery, and in the proper hands has a low risk factor and a good success rate- i would seek out an ophthalmologist who has done training in strabismus surgery, often called a strabismologist or a pediatric and adult strabismus surgeon.  u r correct, at your age, your binocularity would probably not be improved, though it is possible.  it is for this reason, unfortunately, that some insurances consider this surgery cosmetic and refuse to cover it.  i would check with your insurance company.  good luck.
