This past Saturday a "floater" appeared in my left eye. I've had floaters before but this one would cause blurry vision from time to time. I did some searching for info on floaters on the web. Those searches may have saved my vision. After reading some info I determined it was best to get it checked out immediately by my opthamologist.
The doctor found that the floater was blood from a tear in my retina. I was sent to a retina specialist who used a laser to hopefully seal the tear. Had I not had this done a retinal detachment could have been next. My next appointment is Wednesday afternoon.
Needless to say, I'm very nervous. There is a chance the retina could still detach. The doctor is also going to check out my right eye for any beginning tears. Have any of you gone through this? What can I expect over the next few days, weeks?
I strongly encourage all of you who have had a recent obvious floater appear to get it checked out. As I mentioned, mine was a lot different from the usual specks floating around. This one distorted my vision off and on in my left eye.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Allen

Your situation sounds similar to mine eight years ago. After my ophthalmologist repaired my retina (cyrosurgery, not laser, though), he told me to rest my eyes for a couple of weeks and that was that. I've had my retina checked every other year since then, and have had no other problems.
