My daughter is almost 8 months old and she has congenital nystagmas and she is starting to tilt her head to the side. what is involved in the eye surgery to correct the head tilt?
Thank you
jamie

Jamie:  My children were both born with Nystagmus. When my first son, Josh. was born we took him to Arkansas Childrens Hospital. They told us that if the head tilt didn't correct itself by the time he started school they could do surgery. We took him back when he was in first grade. He had a more direct gaze to focus and therefore didn't need the surgery. However, we found out at that time that he had a rod cone dystrophy and was legally blind. We were told that the nystagmus was a symptom of the rod cone dystrophy. Evidently the Doctor's knew he had a problem other than the nystagmus when we originally took him in as an infant. When my second son was born, he was born with the same thing. They are in public schools and they appear to be so normal you wouldn't know they had a visual impairment. They can read the same books as the other students, but they have to hold them very close to their eyes.I would recommend that you ask your opthamologist if their is a reason your daughter has nystagmus. Feel free to send me an e-mail if you like.
