Does demyelination always occur with ON?
My Dr. had me take a Visual Evoked Potential test after ON in my left eye.  I can't seem to get a clear answer as to what this test is for.  My results were:
       N75    P100      N145     N100
left  85.93   108.98   173.04   131.25
rt    68.75    92.57   133.20   92.57

since having this test I've had another ON experience in same eye.  Each time I incurred perm. damage.
Can anyone PLEASE tell me what this VEP was for and what the results are telling me?
Thanks VERY much

The VEP is usually used as a diagostic test for ON.  This test can evaluate the function of the optic nerve by simulating the retina and measuring the response in the brain (occipital cortex).  If there has been permanent vision loss after each episode, the VEP will show this.  I do not see a whole lot of benefit of doing this test after each episode, however, you can speak to your doctor about this.
