Dear Dr.
Maybe you can elaborate as my retina doctor could not.
16 months ago I had my eyes examined and they were fine.
Then had a neurotoxic drug reaction 15 months ago from a new Quinolone antibiotic. Eye had been twitching and having spasms but also my entire body had fasiculations.  In my right eye above the visual axis was a deposit and pigment change of "UNKNOWN Etiolgy" that had not been there prior to the drug reaction.  I have heard that these particular drugs can leave deposits in the eyes and cause other visual neuro or visual abnormalities and blind spots.
Do you have any information on Quinolones leaving deposits in the eye and what they can cause?  Also was given 4 rounds of Medrol to counteract the reaction but Retina Specialist said Steroids would not have caused this...Thank you

i am  aware of quinolones potentially causing optic nerve problems, but not aware of them leaving deposits in the retina.  it is of course possible that these are not deposits, but rather simply a retinal reaction to toxicity. If you are interested we would love to see you here at Henry Ford Eye Care Services.  Simply call 1-800-363-7575 for an appointment.

Many thanks... what can be done for a reaction from toxicity above the visual axis.  No one I saw seemed concerned, maybe because they just wrote "unknown etiology"  The retina doc said my retina was a okay and this wasn't a sign of macular degeneration just an unknown deposit of something and a pigment change.
I would travel to get an opinion to you but have no idea what more you could tell me.  At this point the eye is nothing compared to sensory neuropathy I have to my entire body that has left me burning and housebound for over a year.
Do you think there is concern to travel in my current state to have this looked at.  I went to an extremely good retina specialist who did not seem concerned, but then no one seems concerned over my full body sensory burning, joint and tendon problems or anything else this unleashed.  The diagnosis on every sympton is unknown etiology....this is despite being treated for a drug reaction...  I assume Quinolones just unleash on a molecular level when you have a neurotoxic reaction...and I haven't found any studies that give much information.
Thanks again... Do you think I need to get a second opinion?  The retina doctor said just do a routine eye exam to see if I have visual changes...but other then that seemed to not be concerned whatsoever.
