I wear contact lenses to correct near-sightedness, and about a month ago I started to notice an odd symptom in my vision.  In low light, if I'm focusing on a still object and something moves slowly through my field of vision, I can see a short trail following the object.  I do not notice this in daylight, and it happens in both eyes.  I switched to my glasses about a week ago to see if it would go away, but it persists with or without correction.  I had my regular eye exam about 5 months ago and everything was fine then.  I am 27 years old, I am a nursing mother, and I have a mild case of mitral valve prolapse.  I don't know if any of this helps to explain my symptoms.  What is causing this?  It is only mildly irritating, but  it worries me a little.

First of all it does not sound like anything I would get concerned about.  This may represent a floater that you are visualizing.  A floater is an opacity in the gel in the eye that people describe as a speck or dust that moves in the visual field.  There are other visual phenomenon described that I was thinking about however these are noticed in bright light.  Again, I would not be overly concerned, but I would check with your ophthalmologist.

Louise, I have been experiencing the same thing you have. You are the only other person I have found with these trails. I have had mine for about a year and they have recently gotten worse. Please let me know if you find out anything.

Years ago (over 10) I took LSD (more than one) and ever since then I see sometimes.  This especially occurs after a lighting change, for example, if I have been driving at night and then come inside to low light.  It also occurs when I am tired.  I figured that it was brain damage.  But could it be an eye problem instead?
Then the other day I had what my doctor said was an ocular migraine.  I was shopping is a colorful environment.  I got a "smear circle" like a ceiling fan in the center of my right eye.  That lasted for about 15 minutes then morphed until I had clear center vision but but the peripheral was as if I were looking through a kaleidoscope. Gradually the distortion disappeared by moving further and further to the far corner of my left eye until it disappeared. The whole thing lasted about 45 minutes.  Then everything was normal again. I told the doctor that I used LSD in the past and asked if this is connected.  She said it was not and that it was an ocular migraine.
There was no pain.
I haven't used any recreational drugs in over ten years.
Does it sound like an ocular migraine?  Are ocular migraines connected with LSD use?  I trust my doctor, but I'm looking for more sources of information.
