ReSTOR Lens -Problems ?????

ReSTOR Lens -Problems ?????

I am mid-age, female. Never had eye problems til the 40's. But early this year I went in for my yearly check up (I was seeing double traffic lights while driving.

Yes, my eyes were aging as they had been for the last 10 yrs. I went to a special doctor to see if I was a candidate for lasik surgery.

I was not -but the doctor said I have cataracts. The end of May 2009 I had cataract surgery. Before surgery my left eye was 20/30 Now it is 20/60. I have the ReSTOR lens in my left eye. Because I haven't improved focus and vision since surgery. He refereed me to a Retina Eye Specialist. I got his option & then went to a different Retina Specialist to get his option. I had a health retina and should be able to see. All three doctors agree the lens needs to come out and replace with the regular lens. But my doctor is sending me all over the place before he has to do this surgery.

Now the doctor is sending me to an Optic Nerve Specialist. I am considered about leaving this lens in place it is July now. Still can't focus on the BIG E on the eye chart.

Has anyone had the problem I am having with the ReSTOR Lens

Thanks

Do you know if you have clouding of the capsule?  If you do, you will need a YAG capsulotomy.  I have two Restor IOL's and my left eye was not clear and got worse over time, until I had the YAG.  Now it is very clear.

I get the feeling that your surgeon is not comfortable (or experienced?) at explanting an IOL.  In this case, he should refer you to a surgeon who is experienced with this procedure (probably a senior doctor at a teaching hospital).  There have been some recent posts from people who had their ReStors explanted and replaced with a monofocal IOL, with excellent results.  (Try finding posts from londonbridge, or send her a private message.)

Please use the search feature and archives to read the extensive literature on problems with the ReStor and ReZoom lenses.
PLEASE NOTE: I am involved in a study with two University of Kansas physicians on what may be your problem. That is people that have a crystalens, restor or rezoom put in their eyes and who have negative or positive dysphotopsia and blurred vision and end up being referred to a neuroophthalmologist for tests like MRI, CT  sometimes arteriograms WHEN THE PROBLEM IS USUALLY THE IOL.
This is not widely recognized by ophthalmologists and not known well at all by neurologists and non-ophthalmologists MD.
I'm not saying you shouldnot see the neuroophthalmologist but your description fits many we've had here.
WE ARE ACCUMULATING CASE REPORTS FOR THIS STUDY. IF YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO PARTICIPATE PLEASE CALL MY OFFICE 816 478-1230 AND LEAVE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION. YOUR NAME WILL NOT BE USED. AGAIN WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR ARE PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD BLURRED VISION OR VISUAL FIELD DEFECTS OR DYSPHOTOPSIA WHO HAVE BEEN REFERRED TO NEUROLOGISTS/NEUROOPHTHALMOLOGISTS AND RECEIVED AN EXTENSIVE WORK UP ONLY TO FIND OUT ITS THE INTRA-OCULAR LENS CAUSING THE PROBLEM.

Interestingly, I have a monofocal AMO AR40e lense in the left eye. It is supposed to be relatively benign WRT dysphotoposia due to the Opti-Edge however, I suffer extreme positive dysphotopsia from it as well as some negative. Had a YAG laser treatment to no avail. As for you I've had to curtail driving at night as it's often too dangerous 'cuz all I see is the glare halos and starbursts. Wish I had left my cataracts as they were. Good luck.
