ReSTOR Lens going to be remove -Replace with Regular High Definition Lens

ReSTOR Lens going to be remove -Replace with Regular High Definition Lens

I am a 51 yr old female -I had cataract surgery in May 2009 -Had the ReSTOR Lens put into the Left eye. When my sight never improved my doctor sent me everywhere...Sent me to Retina Specialist (went to two different doctors in FL), Optic Nerve Specialist (at Emory) -All doctors sent me back to my eye surgeon stating everything else is fine. So now I am having surgery on Monday to remove the ReSTOR Lens to the Regular High Definition Lens. This will only be for distance. (That's fine) I just want to be back to normal. Still can't focus on the BIG "E" on the eye chart.
The Dr made a statement to me...the surgery could take long if the scare tissue had gone over the lens. I also have a fog over the lens -or how ever you state that. Not sure if it will be gone after this replacement. Dr said it might still be there.
Just need someone else opinion about this whole thing. I am a very active person. We are boaters, we dive, travel a lot, and I still work etc. I have quick going placing with large rooms or building. Can't be in a big group of people -because can't focus on them. It drives me crazy. Driving is a big problem. Best distance for everything I do in 1 to 5 feet -
Am I making the right decision? I am exalted seeing doctors on a weekly basics since March 2009.
Concerned person...Not use to doctors...I am not a sickly person. I am a very healthy person.
Thanks for any comment at all!

Islandgirlruth     I am enbarking on a study with faculty at the University of Kansas, Department of Ophthalmology on cases like yours. We are interested in people that have had blurred vision, trouble with light arcs, either dark or light spots mission in the peripheral vision and that have had to undergo a neuroophthalmology work up especially if MRI or CT scans were done and that the final result is that it was due to the multifocal IOL.

We have about 5-6 cases so far. We are presently working on getting approval from the research committees at the U of K hospital to proceed. Our next step will to get specifics of the cases.

If you would be interested in participating in this study. (It would probably involve either a telephone interview or getting copy of your report from Emory) please let me know. You can go to the "Doctors" heading on the top menu bar on this page and go to my profile. It has my office phone number on it. You can call and ask to speak to Dr. Hagan's technician "Lanette" or leave a call back number. You need to indicate that you are interested in participating in Dr. Hagan's Kansas University eye study.

We would be grateful for your participation. Our research indicates that such a study has NOT been presented in either the ophthalmology or neurology medical journals

Island girl:  When all other causes of blurred vision have been excluded (as in your case) the cause is usually "vaseline vision syndrome" which is associated with RESTOR IOLS. it is likely that taking that ReStor out and putting in a high quality aspheric IOL will take care of the problem

Why does the Restor lens cause vaseline vision?  I have a new Restor in my left eye and it is working out well, but the new Restor in my right eye is not that clear.  My right eye has never been as good as my left and it has only been 2 months post-op.  My Dr.also put some slits in my right cornea to get rid of some astigmatism.  He has scheduled me for a follow up for October to give it more time to heal.  So far, no further improvement.  What is your opinion?  I have blurry vision at distance, but is clear close vision.

I've always wondered if it's the ReSTOR hybrid multifocal/monofocal design.  Only the centre 3.6mm of the 5mm diameter is diffractive multifocal.  Outside that it is refractive monofocal focused for distance.

The ReSTOR seems to have major issue with pupil size.  I'm not sure if this is also the cause of the Vaseline Vision.

Diffractive optics are inherently less optically precise than true accommodating IOLs.

I had the restore lens put in my left eye 1 month ago.  I am scheduled for it to be explanted and exchanged on August 31.  It is a nightmare. It was a complete failure. I have a very good surgeon.
He said something like the rim is over in implant. Did you surgeon have any trouble removing the Restor.  I am terrified that it will not be able to be removed and I wil have to keep it in. I want it out.  Can you please giove me some info on your procedure.  I am going to have a nervous breakdown between now and Monday!

Thanks so much disapointed66  (age)
