Recently diagnosed astigmatism

My son has recently been diagnosed with astigmatism in both eyes (-4 and -4.25).
If he does not wear glasses is there a risk of amblyopia?
The optometrist recommends that he wears glasses during school lessons, watching TV, etc. but says it is OK for him to not wear them when playing. Is there a guideline regarding the amount of time in a day he should wear them? Could wearing them too little risk amblyopia?

Any guidance appreciated.
Thanks

The prescription does not show astigmatism.
