Recovery after getting debris in eye

Today at 4:30 pm (4 1/2 hours ago) I got either a small piece of dirt or twig in my eye - it was extremely uncomfortable, and my friend could see it in my eye.  I blinked and finally got it out 10 minutes later, but my eye is still painful.  I'm not photo sensitive, and my eye isn't watering, but the whole eye aches.

Does this sound like an abrasion?  Thanks -

Since you were examined by an "eye doctor" today you need to direct that question to her/him. I've done all I can via internet

Thank you!  It hurt last night in the middle of the night - as if something was stuck in my eye.  It's better today than yesterday but still painful so I went to my eye doctor, who said that my cornea is fine but my eye is probably irritated.

For how long does the pain typically last?  Thanks!

I can't see any debris in the eye.  I have some leftover Gentak from a few months ago so I'm using that.  If it's not better in the am I will definitely see an eye doctor.  I'll update.  THANK YOU!

First is to be sure nothing is still in the eye (debris), second would be to have someone get some artificial tears from the drug store, many brands, any are acceptable, and maybe a lubricating ointment like lacrilube, systane PM, Refresh PM and use either the tears and/or ointment on the eye.  Take an oral pain medication.  Minor abrasions will be almost normal tomorrow. If not see an eye doctor. If it is ultra painful you may need to head to an ER. Corneal abrasion can be ultra painful

Thanks - it's really uncomfortable, but a little confusing because it doesn't feel like anything is "in" the eye, it just hurts a lot.

What's the best course of treatment if it is an abrasion?

Thanks -

Yes the key is the pain. You can use artificial tears, don't patch the eye, can take ibuprofen for pain. If not back to normal see an ophthalmologist or optometrist tomorrow.
