Recovery from retina detachment surgery

Posted By Mark on June 23, 1999 at 12:03:39
Hello,
I am a healthy 40-yr old male. Ten days ago I had emergency surgery fo a detached retina in my left eye (scleral buckle), whih my physician said was brought about by my high myopia (-9.0). The detachment was in the upper right corner and appears to have been corrected. My vision is good, though my side vision is dostorted in  small area where the detachment was. Basically, straight lines appear wavy in the corner of my eye. My question is: is this normal? Also, what are the chances for a re-detachment for someone my age and with my degree of nearsightedness? Is the the chance of re-detachment greatest in the few weeks after the surgery?
Thank you..
