Recurring for 3 yrs- 1/4 of eye red w/ pain

My sister has had recurring episodes of developing solid areas of red that  equal about 1/4 of her eye. Sometimes she has severe pain, but usually general dull pain along with vision problems. It is controlled by steroids. She has gained 50 or more pounds since the problem with her eyes started (not because of steroids, she just recently started using the steroids). Other symptoms are joint pain and swelling, limb and chest pains, and skin rash on the front of her legs. No one has been able to find the problem. Please give me some help.

There are quite a number of diseases that would fit that model. Including episcleritis, scleritis and orbital inflammatory disease. I would suggest she see a neuro-ophthalmologist for a second opinion. Find one at www.aao.org
