Red eyes w/tears and mucus no itch or pain?
My neighbor for the last few weeks has had red eyes. They tear up and run. He also has a mucus in them, and in the morning has to apply a warm towel to get them open. He says his eyes do not hurt or itch in any way and only has visual problems because of the mucus. He is 78 yrs old and stubborn as an ox, because he has no pain he says hes fine. What could this be? If i can get him some idea of what's happening with his eyes i can scare him into going to an eye doctor along with my persistent nagging. Any help would be appreciated.

There are way too many causes of red eyes to speculate. He needs to see an EyE MD ophthalmologist. At his age serious eye problems like glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration are very common.
