I'm assuming you don't wear contacts as this problem in contact wearers is almost always due to the contacts.

The most common cause of your problem is dry eyes and/or exposure keratitis due to the lids (especially on the side that had Bell's palsy) retracting some and exposing the cornea to drying. Suggest you use a lubriacating ointment at night such as Refresh PM or Duolube or Lacrilube. In most countries this does not require a prescription. Don't sleep under a fan or have air moving across your face during sleep. When you wake up in the morning rinse your eyes with warm water and instill an artifical tear. You likely will need to do this indefinitely. If the ointment is too "messy" for you try a lubrican gel such as Genteal gel or Systane gel.  Read the feature article on this page about dry eyes.

generally the measure outlined will take care of the problem. If you do go in to see an Eye MD ophthalmologist you would need to make sure the technicians do not put any drops in your eye before the Eye MD sees you. You would say "I think I have exposure keratitis due to pain in eyes in the morning" Please have the ophthalmologist look at my corneas before you put drops in and check the pressure.
