Reiger Syndrome

by joehaines, Jul 20, 2009 09:57PM
Ive read a lot about Reigers online but nobody seems to talk about living with Reigers over a lifetime. We caught it early and are going to have tubes inplanted to help with the pressure casue by the glaucoma. We will continue to treat it agressively with regular checkups and whatever means necessary. What are the chances of living a full visioned life since as of this moment there has been no nerve damage.

With early and ongoing care by a qualified ophthalmologist the chances of having good vision are good.

Would we be correct in assuming that most of the bad cases of Reigers result from long periods of misdiagnosis? Most of the cases that Iv'e found online talk about people in their 50s that had lost most of their sight early in life....

Reiger's is so rare that I have experience with only a couple of cases so I can't give you any clinical experience. You might read the section of emedicine.com on the matter.
