Removal of a brown spot in the white part of the eye?

Dear Doctor,

My 27 year old girlfriend has a brown spot in the white part of her right eye. As far as I know, it appeared a few years ago for no apparent reason. She told me it does not alter her sight. You may also need to know she is a black person.

To describe it more precisely: this spot is not a little dark brown point, very intense and with clear limits, but more like an "indefinite" light brown area.

I am not a specialist, but after some research I tend to think this may be a pigmentation spot. My questions would be:

1. Is there anything to worry about?

2. Can this be removed? If you feel it is not worth removing it for medical reasons, can this be made for esthetical reasons only? I am aware that, in this case, we would have to pay the operation by ourselves, but my point would be to know if this can technically be made, and if so, what kind of result we can expect.

Do you know if such brown marks can usually be treated or removed?

Well when I was younger I accidently pocked my eye with a tree branch which left me with a brown spot on the white part of my eye, it doesn't bother me or anything but it never went away and I just wanted to know if it could be removed.
