Restor3 lens problems

I have read a lot of the past threads and am only more confused than ever. The worst problem I have had with mine--placed in July 2010--is the blurry vision--ghosting--waxy vision--whatever it is called. Well, I am disappointed with having lost my good close-up vision because I was under the impression that this multifocal lens would solve pretty much all of my problems, not make them worse. However, I understand that if I had these taken out and monofocals put in that my close-up vision would be worse than it is now, and that is simply not acceptable to me.

If I decide I can live with the blurry distance vision, I could have the YAG procedure--which my doctor thinks will solve the blurry vision problem--but is there a chance that this lens is basically defective and could result in even worse problems later on? Is the only other option having the monofocals put in and having to live with worse close-up vision AND having to go back to wearing glasses for distance (and still paying the $4000 for the defective Restors, not to mention whatever costs the insurance company won't pay for)?

It goes without saying that I wish I had never had this surgery at all. I didn't hate wearing glasses, and I didn't have much of a cataracts problem either. I feel that my doctor rushed me into this, and I don't trust him to tell me the truth because I'm sure he is wary of some sort of lawsuit. I actually do not want to sue anyone; I just want someone to help me decide what to do. This is such a nightmare.

Who told you that your near vision would be even worse than it is now with a monofocal IOL?  Not necessarily so!  With mini-monovision using monofocal IOLs, you could have either (1) good distance and intermediate vision with some reading ability, or (2) good near and intermediate vision with some distance vision--but not enough to drive without glasses.  From what you've posted, either of the above would be an improvement over what you have now.

My nonprofessional advice would be to do some more research and get a second opinion before you have a YAG.  The archives of this forum contain a wealth of information, including many posts by people who have had ReStor lenses explanted and replaced with monofocals.  (Having a YAG will make it much more difficult to explant the ReStor.)
