I am 62 years old. I had surgery for a detached retina in June '98 and for a macular hole (spontaneous, not MD)in the same eye three months later. I still have some distortion and, since the second week after the vitrectomy for the macular hole, I see an irregular-shaped grey
spotBirthmarks - pigmented
Liver spots
Measles, koplik spots - close-up
Mongolian blue spots to the left and below center of where I am looking.
The surgeon said the grey
spotBirthmarks - pigmented
Liver spots
Measles, koplik spots - close-up
Mongolian blue spots was "probably debris from the hole" and would dissipate in time. It has not. Also said the distortion would lessen with time. It has not. I am unable to find a similar experience.
Thank you for your interest and help.

It is uncommon, but sometimes after vitrectomy for macular holes, there can be a
visualVisual acuity test field defect or grey area in the vision. This can be measured with a
visualVisual acuity test field machine and may be permanent. If your symptoms do not improve, consider getting a
visualVisual acuity test field test.
