Retina Pigmontosa

I'm a 20/male currently with Retina Pigmentosa. Eyes keep steadily getting worse, my contacts are -4.5R, -3L... andi still  can't get better than 20/40 vision even with a new presciption... Anyways, Iwas wondering if there are any new breakthroughs with treatment/cures or anything that will helpimprove my vsion. I hate being partially blind.. My periphals are getting worse which sucks, but nothing i an do.

One of our doctors has advised the following:

Some specialists recommend a special vitamin supplement for retinitis pigmentosa but there is no definitive benefit.  Protective sunglasses and proper diet and nutritional supplements could possibly have some effect in slowing down the degeneration - but cannot stop the degeneration or cure the disease.  [Patients should see an eye surgeon specializing in retinal diseases.]
