Retina Retachment Recovery questions- on the road!

Hello!
Finally I'm posting a long delayed uptodate here.Hope it can make someone a little bit hopeful...
Well , at this moment I'm going to my 8 month post VPP and my most recent appointment was in 26 July.
Retina is attached and they were supposed to set the surgery for cataracts and oil removal, but they didnt.
Dr looked at my for sure a little worried face and said : "You dont need to do it now,no problems in waiting..."
My wish was saying "Great, see you in a   Very remote future" but I just said " postponing the thing wont make it better .Go ahead"
Then he discovered they are lacking IOLS ( now is public service ) and asked me to be back in November
For sure I wont - at least voluntarily - have another Christmas like the previous one, so it seens like surgery will be just  in  January 2010.
It makes me part calm and part worried about the effects of keeping the oil that long, but I'm fine Btw,if someone has good links and/or about them, please send me cos I dont have much time on line to search about and doctors never
talk about .Mine say its all right in my case
The one from the surgery, private, wanted me free of the oil in about 4 months - he could be worried about side effects- or just thinking about a good earning
The second can be kindly giving me more good time or just saving IOLs from some patient with a serious cataracts and no previous RD - a surgery with  presumed better results .
Just wondering...
Once more, my symphaty for all new and old RDs and so here  GOOD LUCK!

I

Good to read the update.
It's best to get the silicone oil removed when the retina has stabilized. Many doctors here in the U.S. like to remove it as soon as possible so problems with the oil will not happen. However, the oil can be left in for a long period of time without problems. Sometimes it is left in forever.
If the cataract is not bothering you too much than you can safetly wait until November or January. Removing the cataract is, in my opinion, more important than removing the oil. This is because the cataract can make it difficult for the eye doctor to see your retina. But if this were your situation then I am sure your doctor would not have told you to wait for the surgery. So, be happy that you can wait. :)
Take care.
