For some years, I have been seeing an opthomologist for retinal schisis in both eyes. Based upon what I have read at this site, it sounds like a more accurate diagnosis would be lattice degeneration since the condition is characterized by progressive thinning of the retina in various parts of the eye.
I had laser treatment on the left eye 5 years ago with good results at the time. More recently, I have noted some degeneration.
This week I am faced with the treatment in the right eye. This one worries me more because the area of the schisis extends almost into the central area of vision.
I'm concerned whether we are doing everything that can be done and whether any attempt to solve the problem will only be of temporary help.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

lattice degeneration is not the same thing as schisis. schisis specifically refers to the splitting of layers of the retina, and typically does not lead to retinal detachment- except for a form called juvenile retinoschisis. lattice degeneration on the other hand can lead to tears in the retina and then detachments. laser is often all that is required in either case to "wall" the area off and prevent a detachment that could threaten your vision. if u r worried why do u not get a second opinion it can never hurt good luck
