Retinal detachment caused by pushing in labor

by Dear2008, Jan 29, 2009 11:43AM
My 38-year-old daughter experiences floaters and has been diagnosed with posterior vitreous detachment.  She and her husband are trying to get pregnant, but she has some concerns.

1) With a diagnosis of PVD, is there a risk of retinal detachment during the pregnancy itself or with pushing during labor/delivery?

2) If yes, is there anything that can be done to prevent retinal detachment during the above-mentioned situations?

3) If retinal detachment were to occur, would it happen during the labor/delivery process or sometime later?

4) Is it dangerous to have your eyes dilated while pregnant when looking for retinal concerns?

My daughter is very worried about the possibility of retinal detachment and the possibility of losing her sight.

Please answer as soon as possible.
