Retinal detachment scleral buckle

How long can a scleral buckle maintain one's sight?

What future implications are there on the eye health of having the buckle operation?

These are questions you need to ask your retina doc.  That's part of what you pay him for.

It is going to depend on what condition caused you to need the SB and what other things you are dealing with.  The buckle itself is a durable device and could last indefinitely.  The benefits depend, as above.  Any prosthetic implant is at risk for inflammation and infection.  

In my case, the buckle was accompanied by a vitrectomy which should, in theory, resolve the issue of the vitreous pulling on the retina.  My other eye is at some risk for retinal detachment as I am severely myopic in both eyes.
