Retinal surgery

by liz1984, Apr 18, 2008 07:39AM
I had a gas bubble and scleral buckle put in my left eye 2 wks ago exactly. Now I had the retinal detachment since August last year but the surgeon didnt want to operate as he said it had been there for a few weeks or months and so didnt need immediate surgery.

Then in March, during a standard checkup i was like well i hope it hasnt changed but i think it has, and when he went hmm i knew it wasnt good.

Anway ive had the op and i had less pain than expected, its mainly been the itchy eyes and stitches drivin me batty,,..which when you get dry eyes on occasions, doesnt help. Ive had some pressure like pain but yeah. I had to have my head 45 degrees back, and i was like oh great, thats going to caine my neck heaps, esp when i dotn have a curve. I had a recliner hired and its been alright...better than what i was told pre op where i would have to sleep up right for 2 wks.

So yeah. had my week checkup last weeka nd he said that the gas bubble would take another 2 or 3 wks which i didnt like coz i knew that would mean another longer time to sit tilted back. Thankfully though he said that i could have my head in normal position.

So i went to the city and did normal stuff. Though coz my eye is dilated and I got the gas bubble, it was very hard to see the stairs. I nearly mistook several stairs whcih isnt god. And when you cant see without glases, it makes it hard to see where you are going when you just got sunnies.

But yeah I went to see him today coz i was paranoid that i was getting flashes and floaters. he said that it still looks good and healing well.

Still got to take all the drops and for the past wk ive been able to sleep on my left side (operated one) so the bubble is pressing against the tear.. He said today that i can lie on the right side in a week probably and continue to sleep 45 degrees till the bubble has gone. Sadly it hasnt gone in the 2wks that its normally to go away in, but he said it can take a while, varies from person to person.

But one thing ive noticed is the eye lid is drooping. Is this normal??? The redeness is still there and the feeling that the eye is swollen and stuff.

I know that with the buckle, the eye ball is a bit longer and stuff, but should that make it look droopy? Coz if i open my eye lots to get it open fully, i have frown lines.

I also noticed that the outer side of my eye is like blocked at times and i mentioned it to him today and he said that im prob noticing the buckle and to just wait till the bubble has gone down etc etc.
