Retinal tears does not need to be treated - why?

Retinal tears does not need to be treated - why?

I recently went to my opthamologist as I was seeing some new floaters (bright spots and sometime like a small black hair flowing towards the side as per my eye movement) especially when I am infront of my computer or at some bright light.

He took a closer look and said I am doing good and doesnt require any treatment.

However, while examining, he was telling to his assistant that there are some retinal tears between 11:30 and 1 but does not need to be treated.

I am wondering why they do not need to be treated. He did ask me to come after 1 month to check my eyes again. Does onset of the new floaters mean I may have a retinal tear at some point in the near future?

PS: I had a minor retinal tear in 2009 and the same doctor fixed it and he said that area of treatment is stable even now

You should ask him why he felt it did not need treatment.  Retinal tears usually require laser.  Some holes occasionally could be watched.  You should not feel as if you can't ask why the doctor decided against treatment.
