Retinitis Pigmentosa treatment pills

by SharmaRicha, Nov 28, 2008 10:11AM
There are several websites on RP that claim some homoeopathic or herbal pills to be helpful in curing RP, like Retnitab, Tostitin, Benfotiamine, etc. Can they really help ?

There is no cure for RP, currently. Any site that claims to offer pills which will cure and restore damage caused by RP is false.
If they were to truly help RP patients, the medical community would have taken note.
So far there is not much that can be done for RP, although some doctors put their patients on high doses of vitamin A.
If you want more info on RP visit www.blindness.org also, talk w/ your doctor.

Even high doses of Vitamin A has been largely discredited. Berrywoo is rght on. Those sites usually are try to sell you eye snake oil.

My 21 year old sister was diagnosed with Myopia and RP at the age of 4. She has been taking regular doses of Vitamin A palmitate 15000IU tablets. Her condition had deteriorated to a great extent already in these past years but it's been  sudden and alarmingly drastic in the past one year leaving us extremely worried. She's also developed Cataract. Please guide us as to how to slow down further deterioration and some way to improve her comdition if possible.

There is little we can tell the RP patient except don't smoke, protect your eyes from bright sunlight, eat a good diet and see an eye MD yearly.
