Retinitis Pigmentosa

Retinitis Pigmentosa

My brother has RP. There is no family history, he is the single case in our family. He is planning to have children. What is the probability that his children (male or female) will inherite the disease? Is there any diagnostic technique available to detect the gene from fetus and how accurate will that be?

retinitis pigmentosa can be transmitted every possible way: autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, sex-linked chromosome, spontaneous mutations that can be in the germinal cells and passed on and in the somatic cells and not passed on.

So no-one can really answer your question. I suggest your brother see a medical genetics expert.
