Retinitis Pigmentosis and Dilation

I am 59 years old and have retinitis pigmentosis.  Recently my doctor dilated my eyes twice - for new glasses and for an eye test.  I noticed that my vision deteriorated noticeably after these dilations and the vision I had before has not returned.  My brother, who has the disease also, said he had the same experience with dilation.  Could dilation be negatively affecting the limited vision I had?  Please advise --.

No the dilation and lights used to examine and test your eye will not do permanent damage. Years of heavy sunlight exposure will.
