Retinopathy - or semblence thereof

My blind spot seems to be bothering me more - affecting my general vision more - and now I am noticing pressure behind my right eye.  The pressure doesn't really hurt, it is just noticable, and more sometimes than others.  Its wierd - I am much more aware of my eye than I have ever been.  Also, I have been having headaches more often - not everyday, but more often than say six months ago.  Sometimes they remind me of migranes - start with blurry vision (like looking thorgh water), the become very sensitive to light and big time headache.

A little background - I was dx with CSR a few years ago and had laser surgery to "fix" it - and it remained unchanged for several years after.  A few months ago when having my annual follow up and vision test, I "failed" the vision test because I could not see the right side of the chart - I could see the 1st two columns on the left side, but the right side was not there.

After several tests, including visual field and angiography (?), it was determined that I do in fact have vision lost - "paracentral" (?) - right of center.  Dr could not explain why.

My brother described it to his dr who said I should have an MRI, that it sounds like a tumor on or near the optic nerve to him.  I have a follow-up appointment with my Dr next Friday, at which time I am going to tell him how it is more bothersome, and ask a bout an MRI.

I am starting to get frustrated and a little nervous.  What could be going on?  Any suggestions as to what I should ask or request?

This discussion is related to major blind spot in right eye.

CT showed nothing that would be causing my vision problems.  Opthamologist wants to continue "observation".  That's all well and good, but he's not the one with the blind spot and dimming vision in one eye.

I am frustrated!  I want to know what to do next - not just observation/wait and see - we've been doing that for almost 4 months.

I am having a CT scan tomorrow morning.  I am taking Medrol Dose Pack for inflamation in my cervical spine, pinched nerve root, etc.  Will the Medrol have any effect on the scan - should I postpone?  I really want to find out what the problem is and fix it (if possible).

If it's progressing you should consult a reputed eye MD specializing on retina, also check for other conditions like diabetics, auto-immune disorder's etc.

It is not stable. The area is changing, also now I have headaches (ocassional) and have unusual sensations with the eye.   Also, while I  may be able to get use to it it it stayed the same, not knowing what the problem is is disconcerting.

If its stable try to ignore it rather than going for more & more tests which can have side effects, also many eye problems have no permanent cure even with medicines & medical procedures.

Diagnosis should only be made if a proper remedy is there.

I went to my opthamologist Friday.  Dr could not see anything looking into the eye that would explain the blindspot, etc.  Also I now have an awareness/sensation of the eye am having ocassional headaches, and vision in right eye is "dimmer" in general.

I am scheduled for a CT this Thursday to see if there is anything behind the eye that would help explain what the heck is going on.

It is really becoming bothersome, and to some degree frightening.

Sorry for the length of this post.  Below are excerpts  from my previous discussion.

Before dilating my eyes the tech started the standard cover one eye and read the chart.  Covered my right eye and I could not see the chart.  Its not that it was blurry, I could not see the chart.  There was a blind spot covering the entire right side of it - all I could see were three letters in the far left column.  Left eye could read the bottom line on the chart with no problem.

I explained to the tech that I had been noticing decline in vision in the right eye, but nothing like this (not that I cover one eye and try to read on a normal basis).  There has been no pain - just more of an awareness of the eye.

When the dr came in and did his exam of the retina and nerve he saw minor swelling, but nothing he weas concerned about.  He then tried to do the exam and again I could not see the right side with my right eye.

He sent me to the back for a scan of my eye, which showed only a slight amount of swelling.  He checked the retina and nerve again and said he could not explain - he was perplexed.

We have now done the fluroesceince angiogram, a 30 degree visual field test and a 10 degree visual filed test.  Based on all the results, there seems to be even more confusion with what and why.  The fluroesceince angiogram shows (and is supported by the visual field tests) that I have degeneration of the retinal epithelium (?).  However, the pattern is unusual - it is not totally central vision as would be expected with AMD, but impacts the periphery of my central vision and some of my peripheral vision - only on the right side and only in my right eye.  The impariment has almost a straight vertical line along the central axis.

My left eye was normal in the tests.

To date, there has been no improvement.  In fact, I believe my vision is worsening (I had decided to make an appointment on the Friday before they called on Monday to set-up the follow-up).  In addition to the vision issue, I am beginning to feel a slight pressure on the eye (I am now much more aware of the eye that before and more so than my left eye).  I have a follow-up appointment next Friday.  I am asking questions here to get some idea of questions that I should ask then – or tests/procedures I should ask about.

Then be sure you are under the care of an ophthalmologist and have a complete work up as some of causes can be serious.

Have actually had both, as documented in my other post (see above related discussion).  Dr. that read the results of those tests is the same dr that did the laser surgery, and is aware that the conditions are not related in that way.  The blind spot that I am now esperiencing is recent and relatively sudden.  The laser surgery was some 5-6 years ago.

It is likely that the "blind spot" you ae seing is the laser burn. It is much less likely to be a tumor.   When you see the eye MD schedule an amsler grid and a visual field test. If they show the blind spot is over the laser burn you likley don't need any more work up
