Right eyelid closes

Right eyelid closes

Hi,
I dunno what is this problem called but my right eyelid closes and opens partially when I chew while eating. Its only a partial up-down movement. No problem with vision or anything but the problem is very embarrassing as lots of people have started noticing it recently.

Hi Sammy,
This is called Marcus-Gunn jaw winking syndrome. Look it up on google search. Typically this is a congenital (born with at birth) finding and may worsen throughout life, but it can rarely be acquired from other neurologic disease. For this reason, I would seek the care of an ophthalmologist. Best wishes!

This phenomenon is called a Marcus-Gunn jaw wink, which is related to simultaneous firing between the nerves responsible for mastication (chewing) and raising of the eyelid, which are typically independent.   I would recommend being evaluated by a neurologist or ophthalmologist to rule out any other underlying conditions.  The lid closure can be treated with either surgery or botox, but only after a thorough evaluation has been completed.

Thanks a lot. Just the name of this phenomenon has helped me learn a lot about it online. I am surprised so many people have it. Heading to a specialist in a few days. Thank you.
