Risk of a Cataract?

by Eyezz, Feb 17, 2009 09:54AM
Hi,
I am wondering what the risk factors in developing a catarct are after a Scleral Buckle surgery?
Is it common? How will I know as my vision is just starting to become better?
Thank you for all comments, experiences in advance.

Sincerely,

Eyezz

A cataract following a scleral buckle with the buckle as the cause is not common.

You will know as the Eye MD will tell you whether there's a catact there or not.

Thank you for your response.
What generally causes a cataract?
It has been 2.5 weeks since I had the Buckle put in.
My vision is slowly improving (the macula was involved). The Dr. seems pleased with the healing so far. I am finding my eye rather irritated and red today?
Overuse? Healing? Paranoid? ;)
Your opinion is appreciated.
Thank you.

Most common cause of cataract: aga
You need to discuss the rest with your surgeon, I can't answer from here.

I believe he meant to spell age as the main factor for cataracts

I've read that it's the lens' exposure to oxygen during a vitrectomy that hastens cataract development.

"Age" is correct

The question only asked about scleral buckle and that is not a cause of catarct development HOWEVER if a vitrectomy is done at the same time or by itself that always results in a cataract forming and/or growing faster.
